The Site Builder is the essence of your Refined site. It’s where you add content and arrange it into a structure that is reflected in the site’s navigation menu.

On this page, we show you how to:

Access the Site Builder

There are multiple ways to access the Site Builder.

 Via Confluence or Jira
  1. In the top menu, click Apps > Refined.

  2. Go to the Refined Administration by clicking the green button.

  3. Follow the steps in the paragraph below.

  4. Click Sites in the left-hand menu.

  5. Pick the site you want to work with.

 Via a Refined site
  1. In the top-right side of the page, click the Cogwheel > Site Builder.

  2. Or use the keyboard shortcut B for quick access.

Add content

Structure your site with Refineds Intuitive drag-and-drop site-builder.
  1. Choose where to add the new content in your site’s structure. You can always move it to a different location later by dragging and dropping it.

    • To add an item to the bottom of the Site Builder, click the + Add Content button.

    • To add an item to a specific location in the Site Builder, hover your cursor between content items and click the plus symbol that appears.

  2. Choose which type of content you want to add, and set it up to your liking:

Edit content

To edit a content item’s settings, click its … (Three dots) > Settings.

To edit the content and look of a page (Refined Page, page connected to a Confluence space, page connected to a Jira project, or page connected to a JSM portal):

  1. Click its … (Three dots) > Edit Page.

  2. The page will then open in the Page Builder.

Structure content (into parent and child items)

A structured Navigation Menu helps your visitors find the right content. Drag and drop your content items around in the Site Builder to achieve the desired structure.

Items that are justified to the left in the Site Builder (parent items) will appear as items in the Navigation Menu. Content that is nested under parent items (child items) will appear in drop-down menus in the Navigation Menu.

Delete content

To delete a content item:

  1. Go to the content item’s Cogwheel > Delete.

  2. Click the Delete button to confirm your action.

When you delete content from your site, you lose the changes you made to its layout. If you want to use that layout again in the future, we recommend exporting it in the Page Builder before deleting the content. This way, you can import it to another piece of content later.

When you delete a page from a site, it is also removed from your promoted search results.

Recognise content types and sources

Looking at the Site Builder, you might have noticed that each content item features one or two icons. The icons give you an overview of the types and sources of content on your site.

The icon on the left-hand side of your content item indicates its content type: Page, Link, or Menu Folder. Confluence spaces, Jira projects and JSM portals always feature the Page icon and a content source icon: Confluence, Jira Software, or Jira Service Management.

On the right-hand side of the Site Builder, you can find an overview of the icons and their meanings.

View content on your Refined site

To see how content looks on your site:

  1. Hover your cursor over the content item.

  2. Click the arrow that appears next to the cogwheel.

  3. Your Refined site opens in a new tab.
