Metadata for a page includes a featured image and text, that can show up different places on and off your site:
The Pages module shows a Confluence page’s featured image.
The News module shows a Confluence blog’s featured image.
When you share a link to a publicly available page, a link preview shows the featured image and text. This works on social media and Slack, for example.
When Google shows the page as a search result, users see the featured text.
You can add metadata to:
A site’s home page
Confluence pages and blog posts
Confluence space landing pages
Jira Software project landing pages
JSM project landing pages
When the preview image and description aren’t set up, the preview is based on the page’s content.

Image guidelines
To optimize the preview images for the pages and news modules, follow these guidelines. While it is possible to upload an image in a different ratio, keep in mind that the module will crop it to fit the format.

4:3 portrait (vertical) format | 800x600 pixels | |
4:3 landscape (horizontal) | 600x800 pixels |
