Layout Editor (legacy editor)

All Refined Pages, Jira Software projects, Jira Service Management projects and Confluence Spaces that you add in the Site Builder get their own page on your Refined site. You can customize a page’s content and structure with the Layout Editor. A layout consists of modules (content), which are structured into sections.

Whether you can update a page’s layout depends on your administrator rights.

On this page, you learn to:

Access the Layout Editor from your Refined site

  1. On your Refined site, go to the page that you want to edit.

  2. Click the Edit page button in the top-right of the page.
Or use the keyboard shortcut E for quick access.

Access the Layout Editor from the Site Builder.

  1. Go to the Site Builder in the Refined Administration.

  2. Locate the page that you want to edit.

  3. Click its … (Three dots) > Edit Page.

Add content by using modules

Use modules to:

  • Create navigation.

  • Show content from the Confluence spaces, Jira Software projects and JSM projects that you added to your site.

  • Add other information.

+ Add Module buttons are located in different locations in the Layout Editor – click them to add modules where you see fit in your design. To speed up the page creation, you can duplicate modules. Go to the top-right corner of a module and click the Duplicate icon.

Tip: use CQL in the News, Activity Stream, and Pages modules.

Start from a template

We have designed templates to help you get started. The availability of templates depends on the content of your Refined site. For example, if you don't have a Confluence space on your site, you can’t add Confluence-specific Modules to that site’s pages.

The template is merely a starting point – after adding it, you can further adjust the page. Go through the settings of each module to customize them, and add/remove as many modules as you’d like.

Apply a template

Click the Templates button at the top of the Layout Editor and choose a template that fits your needs.

If you change your mind and want to pick another template, make sure that you publish your page first, so you can restore the page version later.

Structure your page using sections

Sections act as containers for modules and help you organize your page. Hover above or below an existing section, and add a new section by clicking the + button.

Arrange sections
Drag and drop sections to rearrange them, using the handle on the left. You can also click buttons above and below the handle to move sections up and down.

Divide a section into columns
Within a section, you can cluster modules into columns. Click the + Add Column button located in the top-right corner of the section. To change the width of a column, click and drag the column’s border.

Section settings
Adjust the following settings by clicking on the section’s Pencil icon:

  • Titles. Add a title and secondary title, which will show at the top of the section. You can set the alignment of the title in the page’s Theme.

  • Background. Set the background to either default (following the page’s Theme) or transparent (shown on top of the theme background).

  • View Permissions. Decide who is able to view this section.

View Permissions

Decide who gets to see a certain section in your layout by setting View Permissions. Effectively, different users and user groups can have entirely different experiences on-page, depending on what’s relevant to them.

  1. Click on a section’s pencil icon to go to the Section Settings.

  2. Choose one of the following View Permissions options.
