Frequently asked questions about migration from Server/Data Center migration to Cloud.
How do I migrate from server to cloud?
You can migrate content to Cloud by following Atlassian's recommendations, however your Refined-specific data like sites and themes will have to be set up manually. That said, it’s easy to recreate your structure, themes and landing pages using Refined’s cloud Site Builder.
Note that Refined macros embedded in Confluence pages will not render on Cloud. We recommend replacing them with macros from Refined Toolkit for Confluence Cloud.
We recommend you compare the features and functionality of Refined’s Cloud vs. Server and Data Center apps in these detailed feature comparisons:
Will my themes migrate automatically from Server to Cloud?
Themes will not migrate from Server to Cloud. However, it's easy to recreate themes on cloud and apply them to Refined sites, as Refined's Theme Builder works the same on Cloud as it does on Server.
Will my site structures and layouts carry over from Server to Cloud?
Site structures and layouts will not migrate from Server to cloud. However, it's easy to build sites in Refined's drag-and-drop Site Builder.
Will I have access to the same features in Cloud?
Generally, Refined's cloud apps offer the same features as its Server and Data Center counterparts. There are, however, some differences. Notably, users cannot edit Confluence pages directly in Refined. Rather, pages are edited in Confluence, and then published to Refined sites. In effect, you have two worlds: one for viewing (your Refined site), and one for editing (native Confluence). Click here for a detailed feature comparison.
How much do Refined's Cloud apps cost relative to Server apps?
Should I migrate to Cloud or Data Center?
There are pros and cons to each migration path, and which route you take depends on your unique organizational needs. Companies with a large user base, a complex, multi-instance deployment, and rigorous security or data-protection requirements may find a natural home in Data Center. Cloud may appeal to those seeking a low-maintenance, auto-updating option emphasizing flexibility.
Can I import information from both Jira and Confluence into one Refined Cloud site?
Yes, if you are using both Refined for Confluence Cloud and Refined for Jira Cloud, then you can add Confluence spaces, Jira projects, and Jira Service Management projects, all on the same Refined site. You can also combine content from these on the same home/landing page, as we have on our demo site.
Can I delegate admin permissions on Cloud?
Can I create custom domains on Cloud?
Yes, one custom domain is included in your Cloud subscription.
How do my users log in on Cloud?
Users log in to Refined sites with their Atlassian credentials.
Where will my data be stored?
All content created by Refined’s Cloud apps are stored in our Cloud Storage Solution in the United States. All images uploaded to Refined’s Cloud apps are stored in the Atlassian Media API.
For detailed information about Refined’s data-storage policy, review our Security Statement.

Can I control where my data is stored?
Choice of data residency is not currently available for apps in the Atlassian Marketplace. Learn more about Atlassian's data residency policy here.
Can I edit and create Confluence or Jira pages in Refined?
Users cannot edit Confluence or Jira pages directly in Refined. Rather, pages are edited in Confluence or Jira, and then published to Refined sites.
We recommend reviewing these detailed feature comparisons:
Are my third-party apps compatible with Refined?
Refined supports a growing list of third-party apps, however some third-party macros, for example, may not render in Refined sites.
How can I keep up with new features and updates on Refined's Cloud apps?
We’re adding new features and functionality to our Cloud apps weekly. Check the release notes for the latest updates.
