With Refined you can add several sites to one Jira instance. Sites are separate landing pages creating separate areas of your Jira.

When you install or upgrade to Refined 2.0, all your JIRA Service Management (JSM) projects will be contained in the Help Center site. This site is the default one and you can't remove it or disable it. You can add more sites for different purposes.

Sites are added and managed in the Site Builder within the Refined Administration. This is also where you add, remove and organise Refined sites and categories.

Jira Service Management portals

When Jira Service Management is installed in your Jira, there will be a global JSM site and all JSM projects will be added to this one.

Jira projects

Jira projects are manually added to a Refined Site.

Access the Site Builder via Jira Administration

  1. Go to Jira Administration > Manage apps.

  2. Click Refined Configuration > Open Refined Administration.

Access the Site Builder via a Refined site or portal

  1. From the Refined site, click the Cogwheel in the top right corner.

  2. Click Site Builder.

Add a site

  1. Go to the Site Builder.

  2. Click the Add site button.

    • Add the name and the URL path to the site, the URL can be used as a link to the site.

    • Set the permissions for the site. Note: The permissions determine what users can see the site. If a JSM project is placed on a site, having a URL for a portal the user can see, will show the portal even though the user can't see the site itself. Permissions are based on User Groups, set up User Groups and add your users to these accordingly.

    • Site logo. The site logo will be shown for this site.

    • Set the Theme for the site. Leave it empty to use the same theme as on the Help Center site.

    • If you want the Site Switcher to be shown on this site, make sure this option is checked.

    • Start site for groups. The start site feature makes it possible to direct users to specific sites when they log in. This setting is based on Jira User Groups and can be used for licensed and unlicensed (JSD customer) users.

    • Start site for anonymous users. Check this box to make this site the start site for any user that is not logged in.

  3. Drag and drop the JSM projects you want to have on this site.

  4. Add categories. A category allows you to further direct your users and divide your portals, or get you a landing page where you can add information and links.

Using Refined sites with projects from JSM

When you have installed Refined and Jira Service Management, there is always a Global JSM Site. This site is the equivalent to the Help Center of default JSM, which holds all JSM projects. It can have the default JSM look and feel, or you can add a theme to it with Refined.

Globally activated Refined JSM site

Having the Global JSM site themed means that Refined will be applied to every JSM portal. In this example the two JSD portals will be in a Refined Site. Any Jira Service Management project that exist on the site will show up in the Global JSM Site

A default Global JSM Site

In this example, the two JSM portals will be in the default JSM theme and site.

Having Refined not activated globally means that JSM portals in the global site will not be themed, while JSM portals in the other Refined Sites or categories will be themed.

Using Refined sites with projects from Jira Core and Jira Software

When Jira Core and Jira Software are used either independently or together but without Jira Service Desk, there are no Refined Sites when Refined is installed. Any Refined Site has to be manually created.

Any Jira Core or Jira Software project that you want to add to a Refined site needs to be manually added to the site - this means that you hand-pick which projects go on a Refined site.

Using Refined sites with projects from Jira Core, Jira Software and JSM

You can add projects of any kind to any site, this is completely up to you. As soon as you have Jira Service Management the Global JSM site will be there, and you can add any project type to that site.

In this example, there are three categories to further add structure to the Refined site, and there are two JSM portals and two Jira Software projects in the same Refined Site - in this example the Global JSM Site.

Additional sites

Any additional site added to the Site Builder will always have the Refined theme activated.

Creating structure on a Refined site

Every Refined Site has its individual structure and navigation made by adding categories and Jira items to the site. Categories are containers that are added to a site, and can be added in several levels to create subcategories.

With version 3.0 you can add custom links, any URL to any place on the internet in your structure. Simply use "Add a link" to add a link to a site or a category.
