You might want to keep the default Confluence look and feel in some areas of your Confluence (like IT project collaboration), and only apply Refined to specific sites and spaces (like technical documentation or knowledge bases).

There are two ways of doing this. If you want to have a category menu and top navigation menu on your Refined site, create a Single space site. If you want to include categories and top navigation menu,

Excluding categories and top navigation menu

To create a Refined themed site without categories and top navigation menu, create a Single space site.

  1. Install Refined

  2. Don’t activate Refined as the Global theme. If you have already done so, revert back to the default Confluence look.

  3. Go to the Site Builder tab > click the Add site button.

  4. Click Single space site.

  5. Add a Theme to your site.

  6. Drag and drop a space from the right-hand menu into your site structure.

Including categories and top navigation menu

To create a Refined themed site including categories and top navigation menu, create a Full site.

  1. Install Refined

  2. Don’t activate Refined as the Global theme. If you have already done so, revert back to the default Confluence look.

  3. Go to the Site Builder tab > click the Add site button.

  4. Click Full site.

  5. Add a Theme to your site.

  6. Add one or more categories to your site.
