Customizing My RequestsSome of our most requested features and improvements have been related to the My Request page and My Request module. We’ve packed this feature full of new additions and improvements to make it even better. You’ll now have full control and more flexibility when displaying customer requests. All end users that have an account and access to the My Request page will now benefit additionally from the following: Improved filtersIn addition to the previously existing filters, we’ve added filters based on Location. This includes filtering on portals or any Refined item in the navigation structure such as a Category or a Site. We’ve also added a search bar within the module so that you can quickly get back to that one ticket regarding the foosball table you requested. Column manipulation: Add, remove, sort, & rearrangeYou’ll now be able to add and remove columns to the My Requests page. If the field supports it, you’ll also be able to sort on the column in ascending/descending order. Finally it’s also possible to rearrange the columns in whatever order suits best. Updated designThe view has gotten an updated design and will now not only look better, but work better as well on different screen sizes.
More options for the My Request ModuleOf course the My Request module has also reaped the benefits of the new improvements. It’s now possible to further configure the module with predefined filters, columns and display options. There’s also the ability to further filter with additional queries (JQL) to allow for any conceivable use-case.
Languages & Dictionary improvementsContinuing on the 3.2 release features, we’ve further improved Languages as well as the Custom text variable & Dictionary feature. You can now add your own languages to the language switcher. The Custom text variables now benefit from: Import / Export text variablesExport custom text variables as Additional filteringQuickly search and find the key you’re looking to edit, filter to only show empty or translated values or just values for a certain language. TagsYou can now tag variables. This can be helpful to group related variables, for example per site or landing page, or to create tags for the type of message/variable.
Request Type ModuleThe request type module has gotten an overhaul with an updated design and new display options for the request type groups:
For the request types themselves there’s also new layouts available:
In addition to this you can also choose which request types to display; either individually or per group, from the current portal or from any other. This means you can now display request types and launch create dialogs from other portals without losing the context of the current one.
Refined AdminsFrom the Jira Administration pages, you’ll now have direct links to all Refined Sites from the Refined dropdown. For many of the administrator features, selecting locations is now much easier with searchable selectors for things like:
Additional features & improvementsAs usual, we have also included multiple bug fixes and improvements into this release. 93 customer requests resolved in this release. Some additional highlights include:

For more information see our migration site: Refined for Jira Service Management The assistant works in the same way as it does on Refined for Confluence. You can read our blog post about that here: https://www.refined.com/blog/easily-migrate-to-refined-cloud-with-our-migration-assistant

Layout export to CloudMigrating to cloud just got easier: you can now export your layouts and import them in a Refined Cloud instance. For modules that differ between the platforms, you’ll be given a choice on how to proceed with some pre-filled recommended actions.
Refined for Jira became Refined for Jira Service ManagementWhile the app still supports and work with Jira projects, we recently renamed it to Refined for Jira Service Management to better reflect our main use cases. The 3.6.0 release updates the in-app texts and names accordingly.
Toggle admin preview modeWhen Refined isn’t enabled globally, administrators usually still get redirected to a preview of the themed site. It’s now possible to disable this preview from the admin settings, allowing the redirection to the default JSM portal.
Approvals action page themedThe approvals action page is now themed appropriately by Refined, depending on whether the portal is placed on a Refined site.
Library updatesWe’ve updated our internal libraries to ensure the latest security, improvement and bug fixes.
Additional features & improvementsAs usual, this release also contains multiple bug fixes and improvements:

Add titles and links to announcement bannersNow, in addition to the main text of your message, you can display titles and links in announcement banners:
Option to exclude sites from the Site SwitcherJust as you can in Refined for Confluence, now you can opt to exclude sites from the Site Switcher when editing or creating sites in Refined for Jira.
New $textVariable for Portal DescriptionWe added a couple of new Text Variables to align with the newer naming scheme of Atlassian.
Added in-product info page for Refined for ConfluenceIn Refined for Jira 3.4 we introduced a Refined for Confluence integration. If this is not set up, you’ll instead see an info page about Refined for Confluence.
Organizations have been removed from the user/avatar menuIn prior versions, the Organizations list was included in the user/avatar menu. For large instances with a high volume of organizations, however, users were forced to scroll through a long list of organizations, diminishing the utility of the drop-down. Since the organization filter is available on My Requests— where the organization links to anyway—the Organizations section was removed.
Additional features & improvementsAs usual, this release also contains multiple bug fixes and improvements:

Refined, now also for Jira ProjectsWith Refined for Jira 3.x we have expanded the coverage from Jira Service Desk to also support Jira Core and Jira Software. While Set Up and Manage Your Sites you can now include Jira projects on any site. When adding a Jira project to a Refined site you get a customizable view of your Core or Software project, similar to the view you have for a Service Desk project. Permissions set on the Jira project are used to determine if the project is visible to the user. For the landing pages we've also introduced two new content modules related to Jira projects: Issue Types and Jira Issues. Please find more information about supported issue fields here.
Delegate Admin PermissionsOne of the most frequently requested features is to allow users without Jira administrator permissions to set up and configure the Refined App and the Refined Sites. With version 3.0 we have introduced two Refined specific admin levels, Refined Admin and Site Admin. This means the Jira administrator can assign users and user groups to be Refined Admins and Site Admins. Refined Admins and Site Admins can then setup and manage sites, themes and some other Refined configurations: Refined AdminAllowed to do all things Refined without being a Jira Administrator
Site AdminAllowed to administer a site. Users with this permission will not be able to edit or configure global Refined features. Only the Site Builder will be available in the admin UI for Site Admins.

New and Improved Theme EditorWe've done major improvements to the bundled Theme Editor. It loads faster, looks better and the new theme structure makes it more stable for future versions. Read more on creating your own themes, or dive in to the Theme Editor. Learn more about the Theme Editor
Set Start Site for UsersIt's now possible to configure Start Sites for users and user groups on a per-site basis. The settings in each Site include the option to specify the users and user groups groups for which that site should be the landing page after login. This means that you can have users of one user group start out from one site, while users from another group start on another site. New in this version is the possibility to have a start-site for anonymous users too.
More Dynamic Layout & Page SectionsA popular request has been to specify sections on a page that should only be visible to unauthenticated or anonymous users. This section will not be visible once the user has logged in. A great place to put a signup form or welcome text & login button. Learn more about View Permissions
Add Custom LinksThrough the Site Builder it's now possible to add custom link items anywhere in your site structure. You can specify a name, url and view permissions for the link. Learn more about Building Sites
New Site Menu NavigationAnother helpful feature we've added is an additional menu navigation option with top dropdown menu navigation. There are now two menu navigation options; Site navigation with Content Menu and Site navigation with Breadcrumbs. Learn more about Breadcrumb option
Categorize ImagesYou can now create groups to categorize and present your globally uploaded images in the Image bank. Useful to create collections or group images for easy use on themes or modules.
Refined Filters for Jira SearchWe've taken the Jira support further by also adding custom JQL functions that you can use anywhere you search for Jira content to find requests or issues specific to a Refined Site or Category. There's two JQL functions included:
My Request Module FilterIt's now possible to include a filter bar similar to what's shown on the "My Request" page for the My Request module available on Pages & Layouts.
Improved Resource Handling and App SizeWe've done a total revamp on how we handle our app resources resulting in a smaller app size and batches when loading app content.
Logos for Sites and CategoriesWith the inclusion of adding Jira projects to Refined, we've changed a bit about how we work with logos.
Resolved Issues47 customer request resolved in this releaseRefined for Confluence IntegrationSimilar to our recent Refined for Confluence releases, you can now also add and configure Refined Integrations from within Refined for Jira. Version 3.3 Upgrading instructions
Info |
---|
We recommend to always upgrade on a separate test/staging instance first, to see if everything works as expected. |
Before upgrading, make sure that you have Jira version 8.6.0 or higher/Jira Service Management version 4.6.0 or higher.
Install version 3.3 via the UPM, or download and install it via the Atlassian marketplace.
There’s an automatic upgrade procedure that will run the first time you install from a 3.0-3.2 version to 3.3 or newer. This upgrade will update values in the Request Types module to prepare it for the new features and functionality.
Downgrade
If you’d like to downgrade:
Uninstall Refined for Jira 3.3
Install Refined for Jira 3.2
The drawback here is that any changes made to Request Types module modules or the global My Requests overview pages while on the 3.3 version will not be transferred back to 3.2. Similarly, the automatic upgrade that prepares these modules only runs once, so any new changes made to the module once back on 3.2 will not migrate over once a new 3.3 upgrade is made. In that case, we recommend simply configuring up these modules again. You can export and store the old version of the layout and use that as the basis for updating.

Version 3.0 Upgrade instructions
Refined for Jira 3.0 has two types of migrations: an automatic one that is triggered when the app is installed and a manual one that you have to start by entering the Refined Configuration page.
Please note that you need to perform the manual migration for the app to work as expected. You can do this directly after you have upgraded the app in UPM.
Upgrade instructions
Make sure that you are on Refined for Jira version 2.0.10 or later. If not, upgrade to version 2.0.10 or 2.1.10 before upgrading to 3.0.x. Go to Manage apps and find Refined in the list of installed apps. If you're not on the latest version, you should see a button to upgrade to the latest version. If you're not on the latest version and you don't see the Upgrade button, you can always download the jar file from the Atlassian Martketplace.
Click the Get started button. If you don't see the button, go to the Refined Administration. Click the button prompting to upgrade the data to finish the data migration.
If the manual upgrade does not finish
The manual upgrade task should not take more than half a minute to complete. If it doesn't finish within a minute, it is likely that the migration has failed. In this scenario, it's best to disable the Refined app until we have been able to find what has caused the migration to fail. Please raise a support ticket and attach your Jira support file to the ticket so we can immediately start investigating the cause.
What happens in the migrations?
In the automatically triggered background migration, data is moved from one table to another. In the user-triggered migration, data is added to the tables and some data is manipulated and placed back into the tables.
Can I downgrade?
The migrations change the database structure that is required for version 3.0. Once these migrations are done, you will need to roll back to an earlier version of your database in order to downgrade. Versions prior to 3.0 will not work as expected with the new data structure.
