The Refined Page Builder.

Landing pages are pages you build in Refined Sites to help users navigate your site’s content:

The tool that’s used to edit landing pages is called the page builder. You also use it to edit the site’s footer.

Edit a landing page

There are two ways to edit a landing page:

  1. Go to the page that you want to edit on your Refined site.

  2. Click the Edit page button in the top-right of the page.
    Or use the keyboard shortcut E for quick access.

Or:

  1. Go to the site structure.

  2. Locate the page that you want to edit.

  3. Click the (blue star) three dots > (blue star) Edit page.

Editing pages you’ve built with the legacy Layout Editor

Pages built in the Layout Editor (the legacy editor) will be largely unaffected when they’re opened in the Page Builder (the new editor). You may see a change on pages that contain:

  • Custom CSS

  • HTML modules

  • Cards modules

We’ll soon move all pages created in the Layout Editor to the Page Builder. Ensure your pages keep working and looking as intended, by already opening and publishing them with the Page Builder. This gives you the opportunity to check them and make changes if necessary, which is especially important if you use custom CSS or HTML.

Content and structure

Templates

Modules are your page’s building blocks. Use them to:

  • Simplify site navigation. For example, highlight pages and blogs from Confluence spaces or direct users to other links with buttons, icons, and more.

  • Create user-friendly support portals, by showing requests and request types from JSM projects and highlighting Confluence knowledge base articles.

  • Add any other text, images, and other design elements you’d like.

Structure a page by clustering modules:

  • The largest possible group is called a section. It can have its own settings, including backgrounds.

  • Sections can be further organized into rows. Rows can also have their own settings and backgrounds.

  • Rows can can contain up to six columns that contain modules.

You can easily switch up your design by dragging and dropping modules, sections, and rows around.

Add a module

To add a module, simply hover your mouse over the desired location and click the + Add module button that appears. The availability of modules depends on which Refined app(s) you use.

Edit a module

Click a module to edit its settings: read a module’s documentation to learn about the possibilities (see the module overview above).

  • Click the (blue star) two pages to duplicate the module.

  • Click the (blue star) trashcan to delete the module.

Edit text in a module

Simply click a module’s text to start writing and formatting.

Formatting option

Description

Text styles

Choose the paragraph style or one of the five heading styles.

Text sizes

Available sizes range from 10 - 72 pixels.

Font

All modules use the font that you set in the theme.

Color

There are multiple ways to select a color:

  • Select the shade and hue at the top of the popup.

  • Enter an RGB, RGBA, or hex code.

  • Click the eyedropper icon to select a color from anywhere on the page (available in the browsers Firefox and Edge).

  • Pick one of the recently used colors.

Use the vertical slider located in the middle of the popup to control the color’s opacity.

Emphasis

Make the text bold, italicized, or underlined.

Alignment

Align the text to the left, center, or right.

Lists

Create a numbered list or bullet list.

URL

Add a link to the text.

Remove formatting

Change the text back to its default look.

Add a section or row

  1. Hover your mouse over an existing section.

  2. Click the + Section button or + Row button that appears below the section.

Use text variables

Use text variables to make the content of your modules dynamic. For example, you can use them in a heading or body text to personally welcome a user to your support site, or in a news module’s settings to show news from only certain spaces.

Edit a section

Click a section to make its menu appear at its top right-hand side:

  • Click the (blue star) lock to determine who can see the section.

  • Click the (blue star) cogwheel to edit the section’s settings: see the table below.

  • Click the (blue star) two pages to duplicate the section.

  • Click the (blue star) trashcan to delete the section.

  • Click the (blue star) (blue star) arrows to move the section up or down the page. You can also rearrange sections by dragging and dropping them.

Setting

Background

Choose which type of background to add.

  • Image

  • Color

  • Gradient

  • None

Spacing

Set the amount of space between sections. This setting also applies to the space between a section and the top or bottom of the page.

  • Tight

  • Default

  • Spacious

  • Custom - fill in a specific amount of pixels.

Edit a row

Click a row to edit it.

  • A menu appears at the row’s left-hand side:

    • Click the (blue star) lock to determine who can see the row.

    • Click the (blue star) cogwheel to edit the row’s settings: see the table below.

    • Click the (blue star) two pages to duplicate the row.

    • Click the (blue star) trashcan to delete the row.

    • Click the (blue star) (blue star) arrows to move the row up or down within the section. You can also drag and drop rows within or between sections.

  • A series of buttons at the top lets you decide on the amount of columns.

  • To change the width of a column, click and drag the column’s border.

Setting

Description

Spacing

Set the amount of space between rows.

  • Tight

  • Default

  • Spacious

  • Custom - fill in a specific amount of pixels.

Height

Set the height of the modules within this row.

  • Fill - modules are stretched out to fit the row’s height.

  • Fit module - modules keep their default height.

Module alignment

Align modules to the top, middle or bottom of the row.


View permissions

By showing different users and user groups only the sections and rows that are relevant to them, you can give them personalized experiences on-page.

  1. Hover your mouse over a section or row. You’ll see a menu appear on its top right-hand side (section) or left-hand side (row).

  2. Click the (blue star) lock.

Option

Description

Accessible to anyone

Any user can see the section or row. This is the default setting.

Logged-in users only

Only your organization's logged-in Atlassian users can view this section or row. It’s hidden for anonymous users. You can further restrict permissions to specific Atlassian user groups.

Anonymous users only

Only users who aren’t logged in can view this section or row. It’s hidden for your organization's logged-in Atlassian users.

Interactions with other permissions

You can also set general site access permissions and permissions on specific Refined Pages, links and menu folders.

All types of permissions are closely related and may impact each other. For example, a user who doesn’t have access to a landing page still won’t be able to see a section that’s set to be “accessible to anyone”.

Drafts and publishing

As you build your page, we automatically save drafts for you.

Click the Publish button to make the new version visible on your site, or click the (blue star) arrow next to it for more options:

  • Publish with comment lets you add a comment to the published version. All comments are visible in the Version history in the left-hand menu.

  • Discard draft takes you back to the version that was last published.


Version history

To see an overview of previously published versions, open the (blue star) left-hand menu and click Version history. At the top of the list you find your current draft, if you have one. To restore, export, or delete a version/draft, hover your mouse over it and click the (blue star) three dots that appear.

We currently don’t support users working on a draft simultaneously. When collaborating on a page, make sure to exit the page builder before another user enters it.


Reuse page layouts

If you like the layout of a page and want to apply it on another page (and even another site) as well, simply export and import it.

Export a layout

To export the most recently published layout, open the (blue star) left-hand menu and click Export/import page layout. To export a draft, go to the Version History (see the paragraph above).

Import a layout

Open the (blue star) left-hand menu and click Export/import page layout.
