Welcome to your newly migrated Refined site on Jira Service Management (JSM) Cloud. Find out the next steps to finalize the site configuration and effectively onboard your users in the cloud environment.

Configure your site

Create and apply themes

Themes aren’t migrated with the migration assistant and need to be re-created manually. Read how it's done.

Click sites in the left-hand menu and select your site. In the site structure tab, scroll down to the logos section and add your logos to:

  • The site header. Users can click it to go to the site’s home page.

  • Browser tabs and search engines.

  • Browser bookmarks.

Upgrade your landing pages

Landing pages are the cloud equivalent of space layouts and category homes. Cloud has an updated editing experience compared to server/data center, as well as enhanced customization functionality.

After migration, check all your landing pages to make sure they look and work as intended. Some pages may incur design changes when migrated to Cloud, including those with:

  • Custom CSS

  • HTML modules

  • Cards modules

Add your custom domain

Using a custom domain further aligns your Refined site with your brand, and makes your Refined site easier to access and remember for your end users. You can connect a custom domain of your choice on each Refined site you migrate to cloud.

Set up site content permissions

Properly configured permissions are crucial for site security and appropriate content access. Here is a rundown of which kind of permission settings you can control on cloud:

Permission type

Let you control

Site access permissions

Who can visit your site.

Permissions in the site structure

Who can see specific Refined Pages, links and menu folders.

Landing pages of Refined pages, Confluence spaces, Jira projects, and JSM projects.

Who can see specific parts of a landing page.

JSM and Confluence permissions that are more restrictive than your Refined Sites permissions still apply. For example, customer users on JSM can only access a JSM project on a Refined site that they have access to in native JSM.

Anonymous access to portals currently isn’t supported on Refined Sites for JSM: all users must log in to submit a request. Learn more

Set up administrator permissions

By default, all your organization's Confluence administrators have global administrator rights in the entire Refined Sites app. You can also give global administrator rights to other users in your organization, by making them Refined Administrators. And on an even more granular level, site administrators can manage a specific Refined site.

Onboard users to the new cloud environment

Refined on cloud doesn’t replace native Atlassian, but functions parallel to it. The launch of your new cloud site offers an opportunity to engage internal and external users alike.

End-users

Due to the parallel setup on cloud, content can be reached through native Confluence and your Refined sites – all of which have their own URL. Make sure that end-users only see your Refined sites, by:

JSM agents and administrators

The JSM agent and admin experience is quite similar to server and data center. Explore these articles to learn how to work with the key differences:

Refined Sites on cloud offers a range of new features.

Promoted search results

Help users find content quicker by recommending pages to them when they search for specific keywords. Promoted search results appear as “Recommended” at the top of the search results.

Integrate Confluence for enhanced self service

Atlassian’s native knowledge base functionality works on projects on your Refined sites too: simply add Confluence spaces to a JSM project in native JSM. These knowledge bases are visible to logged-in users.

To give users the best self-help experience, add Confluence spaces straight into your Refined sites with Refined Sites for Confluence. When using both Refined Sites apps:

  • Users can browse the documentation page by page – even anonymous users (which isn’t possible when only adding a knowledge base in native JSM, mentioned earlier).

  • You unlock more modules on your landing pages: Activity Stream, Page Tree, News, and Pages.

  • Users can create JSM request types directly on Confluence pages on your Refined sites.

Set up more Refined sites

Why not transform your JSM instance into even more sites users love — you can create an unlimited amount of sites with your Refined Sites for Cloud subscription. Why not build an intranet, help & support site, and a documentation site/knowledge base?
