A Space Layout determines a space’s look and feel. You can set up space layouts on a global and on a space level.

Globally

Applies to all spaces, unless specified otherwise in a space’s settings. Only confluence administrators can edit the global layout.

  1. Go to the Refined Administration.

  2. Go to the Layouts tab.

  3. Under the Global space layout heading, click the Edit button.

  4. You can now change the layout in the Space Layout Editor.

Space-specific

Applies to all pages within a space. Confluence administrators and space administrators can edit this layout.

  1. On your Refined site, go to any page within the space.

  2. Click the Menu icon next to the space’s name.

  3. Under the Admin heading, click Space layout.

  4. You can now change the layout in the Space Layout Editor.

Space Layout Editor

To customise the left column, page header, page top, page bottom, or page footer, hover your mouse over one of these items and click the Add button. You can use the Confluence editor to add macros.

In the editor you'll see a placeholder that represents the macro. Once you publish your page, you'll see the macro in action.

Click the Clock icon to go back to previously saved version of the layout. Click the View Space Layouts button to use layout templates.

Select to show who created the page, and when it was modified last.

Select to enable users to comment on a page.

Space layouts (templates)

The Space Layout Editor comes bundled with predefined templates called Space Layouts. Selecting a Space Layout only modifies layout settings and content items (including macros): the space’s content and structure remains unchanged. The Space Layouts works great together with Confluence space blueprints.

The bundled Space Layouts are Documentation and Public. Additionally, you can create your own templates.

Documentation space layout

Makes navigation between different documentations and versions faster. It uses the Space siblings setting, and includes a space search bar.

Public space layout

Highlights the page’s content for easier reading. It hides space tool menus and offers a cleaner page tree configuration.

Custom space layouts

To create your own space layout templates:

  1. Go to the Refined Administration.

  2. Go to the Layouts tab.

  3. Under the Custom space layouts heading, click the Add Space Layout button.

All custom Space Layouts become available in the pop-up menu that appears when clicking View Space Layouts in the Space Layout Editor.

In the Layouts tab, you can also see all spaces that use custom Space Layouts.

Attachments

Attachments uploaded when editing a space layout are uploaded to the space home page.
