Use space settings to customise the pages and blogposts within a Confluence space on your Refined sites.

Global space settings apply to all spaces on your site, except for the the spaces with custom space settings. In other words: you can use global space settings to decide the default look of your spaces, and customise specific spaces with custom space settings.

When you update global space settings, this does not update the settings of spaces with custom space settings.

Edit global space settings

  1. Head to the Refined Administration.

  2. Click Sites in the left-hand menu.

  3. Pick the site you want to work with.

  4. Click on the Audience Features tab.

Edit custom space settings

Hover your cursor on the left-hand side menu and click the Cogwheel icon that appears.

Settings

Embedded pages (beta)

Although the vast majority of Confluence pages are displayed on Refined sites without problem, you might want to add pages to your sites that include formatting or macros that Refined doesn’t (fully) support.

In that case, embed Confluence pages on private Refined sites so they look just as they do in native Confluence:

  • Display any third-party macro

  • Show all original formatting

  • Edit the page directly on the Refined site (if user has Confluence permissions to do so)

Availability

Due to technical limitations, this feature is only available on private sites that don’t have a custom domain. Site visitors on Chrome need to have cookies enabled to see the pages. Note that the custom domain limitation might be temporary, as we are investigating it with Atlassian.

If the setting is not available, it will be displayed in grey in the site’s Space Settings.

Impact on other settings and performance

Embedding Confluence pages:

  • Disables the following the space settings:

    • Display authors (however, the embedded pages will still show author and last updated, because this is standard information on a native Confluence page)

    • Show estimated read time

    • Table of content

  • Moves some controls, which are normally located at the top of the page, to the bottom of the page: the … (three dots) button, the feedback button and the star which lets you to add the Confluence pages as favourites.

  • May cause slightly slower performance on-page.

  • May cause certain page interactions not to work, such as opening links located within third-party macros.

Additionally, since Embedded Confluence Pages are shown in an iFrame, some macros will be displayed as an iFrame within an iFrame (e.g. Miro or Figma). In those cases, this may result in a suboptimal experience for users.

Display authors

Show authors at the top of Confluence pages and blogposts. This setting is not available when you have enabled the Embedded Confluence pages setting.

Show estimated read time

Show the estimated read time at the top of Confluence pages and blogposts. This setting is not available when you have enabled the Embedded Confluence pages setting.

Enable Confluence space homes

When this setting is disabled, clicking the title of the left-hand side menu takes users to a customisable landing page. When this setting is enabled, it takes you to the space home (space overview) instead. Regardless of this setting, the Confluence space home stays accessible on your site via search, modules, or Confluence Pages.

You can help users reach your Confluence space home instead of the landing page on your site, by linking a module directly to it in the Page Builder (or the legacy Layout Editor):

  1. Add the space to your Refined site. You can choose to hide it from the navigation menu, if you’d like.

  2. Disable the Confluence space home for this space.

  3. On any page in this space, click the title of the left-hand menu to see the space home. Copy the URL of this page.

  4. Add that URL to a module in the Page Builder (or the legacy Layout Editor).

Table of contents

Help users navigate long pages by adding a table of contents, which lists all headings on a page and moves with the user as they scroll down the page. It shows which paragraph the user is reading and can take them to another paragraph with a simple click. Users can hide or show the table of contents by clicking the icon on the right-hand side of the page.

This setting is not available when you have enabled the Embedded Confluence pages setting.

Likes

Show likes on your Refined site’s Confluence pages and blogposts.

Feedback

Gather feedback from users to improve your sites. All logged-in users who have Confluence Page View permissions can leave feedback on your site’s pages that are created from Confluence spaces, by clicking the Give Feedback button. It is possible to give the feedback anonymously.

Who can see the feedback?

  • Users with Confluence View Permissions can see the feedback they provided and edit or delete it. They can’t see others' feedback.

  • Users with Confluence Add/Edit Pages permissions can see everyone’s feedback. They can mark feedback items as resolved or revert their status back to unresolved.

If previously enabled the feedback feature and want to disable it, please note that the above-mentioned users can still view previously-provided feedback.

View feedback

 Page-specific feedback
